Tips on Maintaining Your Vacuum Cleaner
Tips on Maintaining Your Vacuum Cleaner by Kim

No matter what the size of your house, how much traffic it garners
or how frequently you do or don't vacuum, buying a vacuum cleaner
is still a big investment. There are so many to choose from,
depending on your needs. Perhaps you just need a small
broomstick-style vacuum for your small studio apartment. Or maybe
you need an industrial shop vacuum cleaner for your business
needs.
No matter which of these examples you need (or perhaps one in
between), the one constant that you can count on with vacuums is
that they need proper maintenance in order to continue to be in
good repair. How many times have you had something happen to your
vacuum and it just stops working mid-job? If this has happened to
you, then perhaps the vacuum had not been maintained in awhile.
If your vacuum came with an instruction manual about basic repair,
upkeep and troubleshooting, then you should always refer to that
manual for instruction if your vacuum should fail or if you just
want to give it a good once-over. This is especially true if the
vacuum is under warranty, because trying to do anything not
authorized or fixing it with an unauthorized dealer can void the
warranty - and your vacuum still won't be fixed!
If you need your vacuum parts cleaned, take it to a reputable shop,
even if it is not under warranty. If you need your vacuum parts
replaced, you should do the same. But make sure you are not getting
generic or wrong vacuum parts. For example, if you have Kirby
vacuum parts in your Kirby vacuum, it makes sense not to replace it
with Hoover vacuum parts. Rainbow vacuum parts should only be put
in an authorized machine, and no others. To do so could cause
damage to your machine. No matter what price you paid for your
vacuum parts, it is not worth it to render it useless with improper
maintenance or vacuum parts.
When maintaining your vacuum parts, you should have them properly
cleaned as well. Simply spraying them with cleanser and wiping them
down with a paper towel like you might do for your counters or
kitchen won't do. You should again take them to an proper dealer
for your model and have them professionally cleaned. This ensures
that your vacuum parts will keep running for years to come and you
should have little to no trouble with your machine in between
cleanings.
If you have a Hoover, take your machine to a Hoover vacuum parts
cleaner. If you have a Kirby, then you should likewise take it to
an authorized Kirby vacuum parts reseller and repair shop. A few
shops may be authorized by the manufacturer to service more than
one type of machine, and this is fine as well. But if you do have a
warranty, make sure that you only take it to a proper dealer, or
you may not get the free repairs and maintenance that come as a
part of your warranty! This could be very costly to you in both the
short and the long run, so be careful how you care for your vacuum
cleaner.
