How Many Time Have You Quit Smoking? Quit Nicotine For Good With
Chantix by Charles

Sure, I quit smoking—lots of times! I smoked for over 25
years. I cannot tell you how many times I quit over that
period—hundreds, and each time was going to be the last. Over
those 25 years, I must have thrown away cartons of cigarettes.
Early on in the quitting process I learned the cigarettes I was
tossing out couldn’t go into the trash whole or I’d
fish them out the next morning and smoke them. But, then, even if I
tore up each remaining cigarette before throwing it away, I would
soon find myself digging deeper in the trash—all the way to
the bottom to find old butts that were long enough to get a hit off
of. It was not a pretty picture!
I didn’t realize at the time that I was actually addicted to
nicotine. Nicotine is a very powerful drug, and extremely hard to
kick. I was trying to quit cold turkey, and as most of you probably
know, it’s not a very effective method. When I finally
realized I needed help, I tried the nicotine gum. I quit for a
month while the gum continued to supply my body with ever
diminishing doses of nicotine. When it was time to quit the gum, I
started smoking again. I had a friend who quit smoking but became
addicted to the gum!
If you think about it, it really doesn’t make much sense to
try to quit smoking using a product that contains the very drug you
are addicted to. Although the dose gets smaller over time, your
body is still getting what it craves. This is like some fad diets:
they work for a while, but in the end you wind up back where you
started. If you are really ready to quit, and quit for the last
time, you should try a non-nicotine product like Chantix. With
Chantix, you have a much more realistic chance of breaking the
cycle of addiction and quitting nicotine and cigarettes for
good.
Chantix, or varenicline, is a prescription medication that acts as
a nicotine substitute, but without the addictive side effects.
Research has shown that a particular receptor in the brain, the
“alpha-four-beta-two nicotinic receptor subtype,” is
central to nicotine addiction. When nicotine attaches to this
receptor, it causes a surge of dopamine, a brain chemical
associated with pleasure. But when the dopamine levels in your
brain begin to drop, you start craving another cigarette. Chantix
allows you to have some stimulation of this same receptor, but
without the addiction. In this way, you get the pleasure associated
with nicotine without going through withdrawal.
In clinical studies, Chantix proved to have a much higher success
rate than its competitors. Trials of Chantix showed a 44 percent
success rate at the end of a 12-week period as opposed to 30
percent for its closest competitor. The difference of 14 percent is
huge, especially with so much at stake!
Before you take Chantix, talk to your doctor. Develop a plan for
quitting. Write down all the things you hate about being a smoker
and all the benefits of being a non-smoker. Write down your
personal reasons for wanting to quit. Tell people you are quitting;
create a support group for yourself. Now, mark the date you plan
stop smoking on the calendar. Take Chantix for seven days before
that date to let your body get used to the drug before you smoke
your last cigarette. After those seven days, on the day you have
decided to quit, QUIT!
As with any prescription drug, there are possible side effects
associated with taking Chantix. Again, discuss this with your
doctor. In clinical trials, people reported nausea, sleep
disturbance, constipation, flatulence, and vomiting. Nausea, the
most common side effect, was generally described as mild or
moderate and often went away altogether. A prescription usually
lasts 12 weeks.
While this product has been proven to work, it won’t do all
the work for you. But if you’re ready to quit and you take
Chantix with a positive attitude toward quitting, you can finally
beat your addiction. It’s time to get healthy! You can do
it!
