Five Tips on Studying a Foreign Language
Five Tips on Studying a Foreign Language by Melanie
Studying a foreign language can be made simpler if you put real
effort into it. Here are five tips to help you make the best of
your time.
• Study and practice 1-2 hours every day to keep your mind
familiar with the various elements. Break the time up into shorter
periods and use each time slot for a different element such as
grammar and pronunciation.
• Don't skip classes, but attend every one. Once you skip,
it's really easy to fall behind and hard to catch up. If you have
problems, always sort them out with your teacher before they
escalate.
• Don't be afraid of making mistakes - everyone does it.
Relax and laugh at your mistakes. If you get to know the others in
the class it won't feel so bad.
• Make flash cards and use them at odd intervals during the
day. When you are walking from one class to another, waiting at bus
stops or in queues are good times. Use these times to hone your
memory by thinking about what you learned.
• Study for tests by practicing what you'll need to do for
the test. If you'll need to write in the test, then practise by
writing. If you'll need to listen, practise by listening.
