Petunias: The Perpetual Petal Pusher

(ARA) - Flowers, buds, blossoms, blooms -- it's what we all long for: non-stop color in our gardens and landscapes. We plan, we plot, we ponder…what to plant? Flowers…we just want flowers… loads of them.

Why not make it easy on yourself this season? Stop worrying and wondering if you've chosen the right plant for the right place. An easy solution to achieve a glorious garden brimming with blooms and continuous color is to plant petunias. When it comes to color, petunias can't be beat. You can find them in lots of colors and they just keep pushing petals, all season long.

"I love Wave petunias," says Steve Bender, gardening guru and senior editor at Southern Living Magazine. "I think their development has been one of the biggest boons to Southern gardening in recent years. They bloom nonstop from the time you plant them in spring all the way into the fall. And in Florida, they're great all winter too. If you're a lazy gardener like me who wants maximum show for minimal effort, the way to go is Wave."

Be creative! Plunk 'em in pots, in plots, over rocks and rivers, in urns, or beds and borders -- the possibilities are endless.

Here are some simple solutions to add interest and excitement to your garden this spring:

A Blast of Class. You've urn-ed it! Find the ultimate urn and plant Easy Wave Blue petunias inside, then plant a flower bed underneath with the same color. Flowers fill in fast and furious, creating a dramatic focal point of elegance and adding a big blast of class to your container and landscape.

Passion for the Patriotic? From hanging Old Glory to saluting Uncle Sam, Americans have become passionate about their patriotism, even in their garden! Just plant Easy Wave The Flag Mix -- it'll give you loads of red, white and blue -- and that's all you'll need to do to in your garden to show your patriotic spirit. The colors of the flag are classic colors in any summer garden. For our neighbors way north, Easy Wave offers O Canada! Mix in red and white.

Beach Balls. Catch the Easy Wave Beachcomber Mix and bring the beach to your own backyard. Create a hanging basket bouquet full of all the hues that remind you of a relaxing day at the beach. Beachcomber Mix includes Easy Wave Blue, Shell Pink and Coral Reef.

Get a Big Bang from the Bloom in Colossal Containers. Use Tidal Wave Silver petunias to create a colossal caboodle of bloomin' beauties from pot to plot. This display adds vertical interest and conceals any landscape challenges you might face. These massive petunias are no "shrinking violets" -- plant them in a very large container elevated over drifts of color in the ground.

Twice is Nice. Double Wave petunias' double blooms are frilly flower heads that look just like miniature roses without all the fuss! Plant them in hanging baskets, patio planters or mixed containers and they'll fill in fast, constantly blooming all season long.

Wave petunias are a simple choice for a flower-filled summer. "They're fantastic in flowerbeds, containers, window boxes and hanging baskets," says Bender. "They love heat and sun, tolerate drought, and need little grooming." Once you've tried them, you'll agree!

All Wave petunias prefer sunny spots -- at least 6 hours of direct sunlight is best, but don't let them dry out. Wave petunias are hungry plants, so keep them well-fed with an all-purpose fertilizer every couple of weeks, especially when grown in containers.
