Good Skincare Helps Stop Thinning Hair
Good Skincare Helps Stop Thinning Hair
(ARA) - For
some men and women, hair loss and thinning begins in early
adulthood. More than just a cosmetic issue, hereditary hair loss is
a medical condition that affects 80 million Americans, according to
the American Academy of Dermatology.
Hereditary hair loss occurs as the hair follicles get smaller,
causing a shortening of the hair's growth cycle. As the growth
cycle shortens, the hair becomes thinner and shorter. For some,
this might eventually lead to no growth at all. Because hereditary
hair loss is gradual, the sooner treatment is started, the better
the chances of success.
There are many different treatment options for those with
hereditary hair loss. Here are some examples:
* Finasteride, a pill, claims to stimulate hair growth by blocking
the formation of the active male hormone, dihydrotestosterone
(DHT).
* Hair transplantation involves removing healthy hair follicles
from one area of the scalp and transplanting them to the bald
areas.
* Cortisone injections in the scalp where the hair loss
occurred.
* Special light treatments.
* Keracyte Scalp Conditioner, a topical application applied to the
scalp that stimulates hair growth with human elastin.
For many, the idea of ingesting an oral medication with side
effects is distasteful and surgery is invasive and can be painful.
Topical treatments offer the easiest option but are unreliable.
Barbara Perricone's husband who is afflicted with thinning hair
decided to take the advice of Burt Ensley, Ph.D., a noted Arizona
microbiologist and researcher of skin care technology.
After working to develop the successful Dermalastyl brand of
anti-wrinkle treatments, Dr. Ensley took the same technology and
applied it to hair restoration. Basically, for healthy hair, look
to the health of the skin and scalp. Hair follicles in the scalp of
humans are associated with and responsible for the production of
proteins such as elastin and keratin. "Not only is elastin and its
precursor, tropoelastin, synthesized by the cells in the hair
follicles, but the follicles themselves appear to depend on
elastin," comments Dr. Ensley.
The first step is to make sure to protect yourself from the sun's
damage. Just as you put on sun block to protect your face, remember
to make sure your scalp isn't being damaged either. "Solar damage
may be a major contributor to hair thinning and loss," states Dr.
Ensley.
In his research, Dr. Ensley found that older hair follicles react
to tropoelestin, the precursor to elastin when applied to the
scalp. He worked to develop a new product, Keracyte, that utilized
this concept and has produced some astonishing results. Keracyte
Scalp Conditioner not only stimulates the follicles to produce
longer, thicker and fuller hair but amazingly many users report
that it restores the hair color as well.
This treatment was the right one for Perricone's husband. After
using the product for four months, she noticed a definite
difference. She wrote Dr. Ensley about her experience: "Now from
mostly white his hair is becoming salt and pepper again. The dark
hairs are thick and curly like it was when he was young. I was so
impressed I started using Keracyte. Some of my gray roots are
starting to show their original color and are much thicker and
stronger."
