Write Sales Letter: Benefits vs. Features - A Classic Battle by Ray Abraham

In the past few years, people are bombarded with tons of offers online. This includes e-mail ads, banner ads, text ads, or whatsoever. When they're hooked with an offer and click through the ads, here comes the duty of a sales letter to sweeten the offer and then close the sale.

The question left is: what do people seek when they click through and read the entire miles of the sales letter? What attracts them even more?

Every single thing we put down into the sales letter itself boils down to be features and benefits. However long or short your sales letter is, you always talk about nothing but features and benefits. The difference between the two is crystal clear: features are all about what something does, while benefits are all about what something does FOR YOU!

So which one grabs people attention more than the other? Let's find out, Which one leads you more to a purchase? "Copywriting Software ABC has hundreds of templates, a built-in HTML builder, and an undo button" or "Copywriting Software ABC will do ALL the thinking for you: headlines, sub-headlines, opening, body, closing, order button, P.S's, everything you can think of! Never again you need to write a single HTML code! And forget about starting over when doing bunch of mistakes, because you can undo literally everything - however many times back that you need!" ?

It's not a rocket science.

People can't takes their eyes off of benefits simply because people today tends to think and decide emotionally. This statement remains true to both men and women. So, always hunt for benefits that suits your potential buyers first, before you put that copywriter hat on and start writing.

One last tip: if you can only think of a list of features everytime you write, don't despair! You can always TRANSLATE features into benefits by adding sentences with "what's in it for me?" way of thinking. However, if you're really stuck and going to bet on those features anyway, do it in bullets and not paragraphs.
